Is this a Hobb's oil lamp?
« on: March 19, 2012, 07:09:39 PM »
Does anyone know if this oil lamp is a Hobb's? It looks to be to me,its not the original globe I do know that. And it dates back to my great great grandmother. Every search I do shows Hobb's or Fenton-and doesn't seem like a Fenton to me. Any opinions i'd appreciate it. Thanks

The problem you get into with these Cranberry Opalescent Coinspot lamps is L.G. Wright in the mid 60's had Fenton produce lamp bodies, globes, shades, etc. for Wright & its difficult to tell them from Hobb's, but to me it looks like something Wright would do.  My opinion only.

Well I can guarantee its much older than that, my mom and my aunt know it was their great grandmother's and they are both in there 70's. And its only ever been in our family. And they both swear its over 100 years old. now being they are in their 70's some people would argue but there both still sharp as tacks in the head, hahahaha. And they both said the globe is a replacement-maybe the base also. I know the stories i've heard and what they tell me that's the only reasoning I give it that age and not newer.

Hello

It might help to get some better photos.  Remove the burner and chimney and get a photo from the side that shows the entire lamp from top to bottom.  Are there any markings on the collar (the metal piece the burner threads into)?  On the metal base?

The colour looks very odd to me - very orangish.  Is the photo colour true?

Sid

Well i've found one similar-even the base.....http://www.bonanza.com/listings/HOBB-S-WINDOWS-Ruby-Opalescent-table-lamp-shade-/33908617

Yes those pictures are not good true color, the bottom of the glass you can tell is lighter i'm guessing from the oil.
