On the few of these heavily cut pieces I've seen, the rims are so fragile they suffer, and this one is no exception with flea bites in plenty, but couldn't leave it behind - too attractive. Real tour de force of cutting with saw tooth rim, fan cuts, strawberry diamonds, blazes, and deep mitre cuts on the base, although in a sense the cutting is irregular so maybe not so high quality. Nice greyish cast, rings very well, weighs a tonne and diameter is about 8"/205mm - but no marks. I'm thinking it's anywhere from 1830 to 1860 period. Anyone like to take a punt on origin, and am I more or less o.k. with date.

thanks.
