Topic: footed cobalt jug

What is this jug? Looking at the foot it is obviously old, not just because of the wear but also due to the three part construction and the jolly thumb rest... height is 20 units or 8 imperials.

Ivo, can't really add anything, but what is the thumb  rest?  Is it a scroll of glass, does it have a particular design, or is it just a knop of glass - probably no help at all anyway, but I'm interested to know it's shape if it's anything specific.

The thumb rest is a scroll of glass part of the handle. The scroll was fitted with a curl, it has been smoothed against the body and it is dented on top with the tongs - so the top is sort of flat.

I don't see it as a celery - with that lip it has to be for pouring a liquid  -  milk possibly, to big for cream I suspect  -   could even be for table wine  -  after all Bristol blue was a common colour for decanters.   Don't see it as a water jug.       The foot appears small for the body - and am I looking at a ground/polished pontil depression?    However, it's very attractive - this colour is always appealing.     Might just have had a hard life, and possibly not quite as old as supposed.

sorry, I'm not sure if we're at cross purposes Ivo  -  I wasn't implying it was FROM Bristol  -  simply that I thought the colour was what we call Bristol blue (might have been made anywhere - although doubt you'll get a result on that question).     However, this might just be a difference in name for the same colour  -  for all I know maybe people like yourself (on the Continent), use the word cobalt, whereas us plebs in the UK use the word Bristol.
And the answer to my question regarding the pontil, is............

meant to add...........my opinion is, almost certainly not before c.1860, in view of the construction of the handle.
