Dating Daum - 1920s or 1950s?
« on: April 03, 2012, 12:12:30 AM »
This is a large and very heavy bowl from my personal collection, in a very faint, lemon yellow.  Hard to tell color in my terrible photos (sorry).  I'm curious to know when it was produced.  Someone on 1st Dibs is listing one in very similar form (but bubble glass) as being from the 1920s, but I'm skeptical.  I believe this is much later, 1950s.  Any help would be appreciated.

Charles.

Thanks! As per that webste, The presence of the word Nancy in the signature indicates my piece is actually older, 1920s/1930s vintage. A pleasant surprise.

Your welcome, I have a nice couple of Daum vases myself and have found that site very helpful in the past.

In the book Daum Mystery of glass by Noel Daum they give the date of what looks like that vase as 1948 .

Thanks John -
I believe you.  And I can live with 1948. ;)  That puts it at the end of Deco and cusp of Modern design era.  Consistent with my confusion as to whether it's a 1930s or 1950s piece.  Just split the difference!  Helpful reminder: don't believe everything you see on the net.  Daum dating website and 1st Dibs seller both wrong.

Charles.
