Blue Ribbon Brand
« on: April 09, 2012, 05:45:36 AM »
Hi, I am interested in learning more about a oil lamp that my Grandmother had.  I learned that the lamp was made by Riverside Glass Company and apparently in a style called "goofus".  The original burner had been replaced at some point with parts from the Manhattan Brass Company but what I cannot find and hope that one of the glass enthusiasts on-line might be able to identify is the chimney. It says "Blue Ribbon Brand" - I cant seem to find any information on that badge.  Any insight is appreciated..

This link reveals it's an American brand. I also found that the trademark was first used in 1910 and registered in 1927 but unfortunately the record is incomplete and doesn't reveal the owner.

Thanks for looking Lustrousstone.  Unfortunately, the link shows it saying "Blue Ribbon Glass" made in the USA. The chimney itself just says Blue Ribbon Brand, nothing about glass and nothing about its country of origin- which we can easily assume was indeed USA.  I dont live too far from Ft. Collins, Colorado so I might drive up there when they open the museum in November.  I have looked through the patents for that badge and couldnt find it.  What is interesting to me is how it appears my wife's great grandparents seemed to have matched three different pieces together to make or keep the lamp working.  Unlike today's disposable mindset.  Regardless, thanks very much for the lead.

If you look on the left the article being described is a lamp chimney...

The US trademark database shows that Blue Ribbon was a brand name for lamp chimneys...
