Pulegoso Vase - Martinuzzi? Italian? Beranek?
« on: April 10, 2012, 08:02:50 PM »
A purchase today that I went back and got after seeing it the other day. The color is most accurate in the base image. Cased in clear with a nicely done pontil. Appropriate age wear on the underside of the foot. I would not have even considered Beranek until recently when I found the very small piece cased in clear.  There is a line drawing that resembles it from this online Beranek document:

http://www.vcm.cz/program/exhibitions/glass/pdf/45_49.pdf

except the neck is different. It is design number 4515, 4th down on the second page. The number is very hard to make out.  This piece stands approx 8 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter at the waist.  It is a beauty regardless of who made it.....

Certainly open to any suggestions......

TIA,
Craig

Your shape without the handles is on page 7, 4th down (next to it is a tall vase with similar handles).

John

Forgot to say, what a nice vase.

Doesn't look like Martinuzzi, so you can put him at the end of your maybe list.

Thank You Robert & Jindrich.....

I am truly amazed that it showed up in my neck of the woods some 65 years later....

Amazingly, we stopped at a little out of the way antique mall on the way home from a large show in Portland over the weekend. I won't repeat here what Peggy heard me say when I turned around and saw this pair of vases on a shelf.....  One has the label remnants on it that is the same as another early small Beranek piece I have in my collection.

A pair of these.... I was stunned, and needless to say they came home with me....

I also found a third example in the same mall, but it had a large crack, and I found 3 other pieces of pre 1950 Beranek examples there....  All examples I had, so they stayed there.....  and the early Beranek just keeps on coming to me....  weird...

Based on conversations with Robert, these are both early pieces also, and not later production. The label on the ones helps support that also.
