Rubina Verde optic rib vase
« on: May 14, 2012, 12:40:58 PM »
I think I'm correct in calling this combination of cranberry glass which then becomes green, Rubina Verde?  The colour and vertical ribs remind me of rhubarb :)   I was so convinced that the neck would be uranium and was really surprised to discover I was wrong.  The vase is incredibly light and thin walled with a pushed in base which looks like a little pyramid on the inside.  It stands 6½" and only weighs 70g.

I'm not sure how old it actually is, but thought it could possibly be Victorian.  As to the maker, I haven't a clue.
Any ideas would be most welcome.
TIA ;)

I was just searching for some precise details on Rubina Verde and came across this unanswered post from nearly a year ago. I'm not sure, but it's worth bumping anyway. I was under the impression that it graduated from ruby/cranberry at the top to green at the base, whereas yours is the opposite.

I've attached a photo of the Stourbridge hyacinth vase that I also have the same query for, also with vertical optical ribs. The green is pale and fluoresces faintly under UV, but this could indicate the inclusion of manganese as a decolourant (although it didn't succeed that well). So is it a pre-condition of Rubina Verde that it should include uranium, or just be green glass? If the former, then can anyone define the finish for my vase please?

Also, I note that some glasses such as M's thread here may actually be Webb's Lemonescent - is this because of the opaque outer rim? And is the US definition therefore different from the UK?

 ???
