Unusual Modern Shape White Glass Bowl - ID Help
« on: May 28, 2012, 01:28:08 AM »
I know this is going to be a stretch to identify.  When I picked it up I thought it might have been porcelain, but I believe it to be glass.  The shape is sort of "mid century modern".  The odd thing is the polished base. It has a matte quality with a bit of the shiny surface still intact.  Maybe it is porcelain and I've just completely lost my mind.  Could white glass be polished to a matte finish like this?  I'm totally at a loss on this one.

Hi,
think it´s a Gullaskruf ´Randi´ bowl. Concerning the designer someone else may
be able to shed some light hopefully.  :)

WOW!  Thank you!  It's good to know I'm not off the mark with thinking it was glass.

A quick check and i found this site that states it was designed by Arthur Percy:  http://www.millersantiquesguide.com/items/97791/late-1950s-swedish-gullaskruf-red/

I think the same is said in one of the Leslie Pina books, but apparently it is incorrect, according to knowledgeable Swedish folk.  ;)

Deffo the Swedes!  I was given this info by a very helpful fellow named Raoul Karlsson, who lives in the town of Gullaskruv, and has been collecting Gullaskruf glassware for many years.  He's also a member of this board.  There are also other websites, mostly Swedish, which give the same info for these Randi bowls.

Well, that is a bit sad when trusted published materials or websites like Miller's are not factual.  Thank you for your help.

Thanks, Wayne! I was wondering where the different attributions came from.  :)

The different attributions is probably from bad or lack of research. That Randi range was designed by Lennart Andersson is at no doubt as his wife, the founder of Gullaskrufs daughter, is still alife.
