Topic: Is this a Sowerby Trinket Set?

I have seen this set now several times with these candlesticks which appear to be Sowerby 2501/Cadet/Junior, twice in clear, four times in peach, and now twice in green. Does anyone know if it is a Sowerby Set? Could it be the "Maid" set on Anne's site?

I have the Pot in peach, it measures approx 11.4cm across and approx 12cm high, the quality is far superior to how I imagined it would be from seeing pictures, how about this colour?

Also a note to Anne, I Googled "Sowerby Maid" and the only relevant thing that appeared was an old thread of yours. Reading through, I wonder if the above set/pot qualifies as a "bright diamond design"?

I don't compare pinks, but Sowerby green always seems to have a hint of yellow,  even when it's not uranium.

Do you not think then that my genuine Sowerby pieces above, are a very similar green to the Ebay listing Christine?

The set in the listing Jayne links to on eBay has two Sowerby 2501 set candlesticks (as shown in the Sowerby List 39 on Wayne's 20th Century Glass website) and what appears to be a Junior/Cadet pot.

The 2501 set is also shown in the Sowerby 1940 catalogue (found on Glen Thistlewood's Sowerby CD) & the 1954 catalogue with entirely different shaped candlesticks and pots, so it's all a bit confusing!

Meanwhile, the tray, pintray and the bowl in the listing are usually seen together, along with the List 39 2501 candlesticks... so it's another one of those puzzles we need to unravel!     I've seen them in pink, blue, green and clear so far. 

I wonder if it is the elusive Maid set?

Hi Anne, it's good to know I'm not the only one to have noticed the Ebay listings tray powder pot and sometimes pin dish are often seen together with the 2501 candlesticks.

I have seen the tray and pot as a mish mash with other random pieces a couple of times, but I believe this particular combination has now cropped up too many times to be coincidence.

Regarding the pin dish, it's hard to see in the listing, but I believe it's an oval shape (the measurements suggest such) and has the same pattern base as my example peach/pink pot shown above, I have seen pictures of a it a few times and there is a current listing here showing it slightly more clearly on the left with the powder pot in the middle, and another random pin dish on the right.

Regarding quality, my peach/pink pot certainly seems of Sowerby quality in my experience.

I don't think it's beyond the realms of reason to speculate that Sowerby may well have used the 2501 sticks for another set, they certainly seem quite casual about combinations in the 1933 catalogue advert for the Junior set, "also Cadet, brush tray with star centre"

So yes could this be the elusive Maid set? Time will tell, but meantime I personally feel it's likely this is a Sowerby made set.

I've just realised that I have most of one of these sets!    I picked it up a few weeks ago - has the tray, the pintray, and the 2501 candlesticks, but no pot.  The colour is the peachy pink rather than a pinky pink.  The pin tray is oval as you suggested too.  I have a sneaking suspicion I may have a separate pot in a box somewhere as well.    I really must go through the boxes and do pics of the un-photographed stuff once the Jubilee/stuff in the village is over and done with.
