Is there a link between John Walsh Walsh & Tudor Crystal
Crystal Island:
I am brand new to this board - so please be gentle with me. I have just purchased a suite of 64 glasses which have deeply faceted bowls and a one inch to three inch rim (depending on the use of the glass) which is heavily engraved with a grape and vine design.
Some of these are marked Walsh, some Walsh England and some surprisingly (which are EXACTLY the same) are marked Tudor England.
Can anyone (espcially Bernard C) help me in:
1. Identifying the pattern,
2. Giving me some idea of the age
3. Tell me what the link is between Walsh and Tudor Crystal
Many Thanks
Sue O
Bernard C:
Sue — What a wonderful set, exactly as it should be, with replacements for breakages being bought as needed over the years.
For a full discussion, see topic Walsh glasses
I only need to add that unmarked glasses are most probably Walsh, around 1920–51 (Walsh often forgot to mark their glass), "WALSH" 1926–30, "WALSH ENGLAND" 1930–51, and "Tudor" 1951*** onwards. When Walsh closed in 1951 some of the employees and their equipment were taken over by The Stourbridge Glass Co. Ltd. (Tudor Crystal), where the production of several Walsh patterns including Fruiting Vine and Clyne Farquharson's Leaf continued.
It was the same master craftsmen making the glass, hence they look exactly the same.
Have you any Fruiting Vine decanters?

*** Note that this date is ONLY for Walsh patterns made by Tudor Crystal.
Crystal Island:
Dear Barnard C
Thank you so much for your reply. I thought the name may be as appropriate as it is - it matches the glass perfectly I could find a similar glass under Tudor called "Vine" but the stem is different.
Re the decanter - I only wished I did have one - but the answer is no sorry.
I currently trade in Crystal on E-bay (as a hobby - well that is how it started) I have only been doing it for 18 months or so and I have so much to learn - but that is the joy of a hobby I suppose. I will be listing all the Walsh over the next couple of days and they will be coming live around the 6th April finishing on Easter Sunday. Not sure if they will sell or not - but at my starting price of £8 a glass or so - I hope I will be able to tempt someone. I would love to keep them as they make a gorgeous set - but if I kept all the things that I found and loved I would not be able to move around my home. The garage is out of bounds for the car as it is.
Once again thank you for all the info and the link - it has proved extremely useful - especially about the one about Walsh not always marking their glasses as I have three huge Water Goblets which are not marked and I am sure someone will be asking why.
Not sure if I will ever be able to repay your favour but if you ever want to know anything about a Stuart pattern - I'm your girl.
Regards
Sue
Bernard C:
Sue — Glad to help.
Only problem is that I am not an abbreviated version of a charming town just over the Pennines in County Durham — I am an abbreviated version of me :!:
Just heard today that there is likely to be a glass fair at Haydock Park in October. I will make sure it is in Events once all is confirmed. See you there, if not before.

Crystal Island:
So sorry for the mistake with the name is must have been a Freudian slip as the true love of my life used to live at Barnard Castle.
Hope to see you at Haydock it is only 8 miles from where I live - but the last time we went to attend an antique fair there it was cancelled and believe you me there were a great number of disgruntled buyers who had travelled a lot more than 8 miles.
Once again thank you so much for all your help
Regards
Sue O
