Stumped on Use
« on: June 22, 2012, 06:37:45 PM »
Lovely crystal cut piece but I can't work out its use.  Stands 3", diam. 5.5".  Fairly narrow opening, no use as a vase .... scratching my head here along with its origin, thank you

I've always thought that unless you can see an item has a SPECIFIC use i.e. like a flower vase, then an item can be whatever you want it for.  In this case it could be a small posy bowl for tiny flowers like violets or primroses with their stalks cut to size, or something like a candy or nut bowl.

If it were here in the U.S. I'd say it might be a breakfast honey bowl from the 30s. These were designed very much as yours...honey was in the well & when it was spooned out the fanned sides would help catch any drips rather than having them hit the table or tablecloth. Just my thoughts. Ken
