Need help with ID'g Heirloom Vases -Rare?
« on: July 14, 2012, 11:16:14 PM »
Hi, I came here after spending hours upon hours sifting through pictures and info and I am no where close to any answers. I have 3 Vases that belonged to my Mother and quite possibly handed down by my Great Grandmother who migrated to Canada from France, late 1800's. At any rate, I am not able to locate anything like them thus far and have read that Optical Lines, which all 3 have, are quite rare. I am so glad to have found this site. I always thought glass was made by machines. I think after viewing all the beautiful glass I may have a new found love!

Thank you for any input one might have. I will post 2 and 3 seperately under the title Heirlooms.

Heirloom Vase #1. A Vase without any color.  It has tiny beads that form lines that swirl from bottom to top rim half way the circumfrence. The base are 4 round discs situated on top of each other they are graduated in size from bottom to top and the body of the Vase is atop the smallest disc. There may be a name on the bottom but not knowing Artists Marks, I am not sure.

#1. JPG is a straight on view

#2. JPG is looking down from the mouth or rim

#3. JPG is the base

#4. JPG is the bottom

Hello gshep, and welcome to the board.

You are very lucky to have inherited lovely glass, and beware glass is addictive.

Your pieces sound interesting, but sadly we can't see them because the way you have posted the link to them does not work.

It might be good to read the introduction to posting pictures here on the board... we usually discourage links, especially Tinypic as they vanish after a while and render the information useless for future reference.
If you could post your pictures so that they are visible here on the thread and can be clicked on to enlarge, that will help us all enormously to help you.

Here's to a new hobby for you!
Rosie.

I found a place to resize my pics...it will take me a while. But here are pics of the 1st Vase. I forgot to say the size of the vase in my first post. It is 7 & 1/2 in. H. x 3 in. W.

Don't know about your vase but optic ribbing is not a rare technique. America might be the source of this vase.

Well done for figuring out how to resize your pics, they have come out clearly now.

As you can see, I am into glass animals and birds, so know little about vases and the like, but I am sure someone will be along to help.

Just in case you'd not realised, you can attach up to 4 pics per post, rather than doing them separately. Welcome to the board by the way. If you need help with anything just ask.
