Two wee Mdina items - a tea light and a vase - how new?
« on: August 13, 2012, 10:57:23 AM »
I bought two small Mdina items recently, and I was wondering how new they are.  :)

The first is a tea light, 7cm tall and 8,5cm wide. It's the only piece which is marked.
The second is a little vase (or perhaps perfume bottle without a stopper -- the hole is a bit too small to stick my chubby finger into), 9cm tall.

I appreciate your help... just be gentle with me.
Anik

I reckon they're reasonably recent, Anik.
They're an original MH design, it's called "Crystal Blue Stripe" - but named post-Harris. It's been in production in one shape or another, practically from the start.

It is a lovely, lovely design, and while your bits are small - they are really beautifully executed.
You are missing a clear "teardrop" style stopper from the perfume bottle - if you measure the exact size of the hole and tell me what it is, I can send you one - I've got spares.  :)

Yay!  At least reasonably recent is less recent than yesterday.

Thank you, Sue! :-*  I will email you.

I do have pieces which are this "reasonably recent" in this design in my collection, Anik - regardless of age, good glass is good glass. :)

I have to say, though everyone knows I'm partial to Czech glass, I am very much smitten with the magic of Mdina when it's held up to sunlight (or lamp) -- even with the common pieces.  The glass comes alive and reveals colours and details I wouldn't have noticed otherwise.  I remember John (glassobsessed) posting the most wonderful photographs of his fancier Mdina, showing just that.

In case you have not seen this thread Anik, there is the odd bit of Mdina here and there: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27152.0.html

John

No, I hadn't seen it before... great thread and some really super photos of the 'magic' in the glass.  Thank you for bringing it back -- I'm sure a few will gladly read it again (or read it for the first time).   :)
