An oval pressed glass 2-handled plate or shallow dish of clear glass with an applied central plaque of opaque white/milk glass. 13 inches long x 9 inches wide x 1.5 inches deep.
The clear glass border has "give us this day | our daily bread" in relief, and “PATd. DEC 7 1875” . The white central plaque has a depiction in relief of two women beneath a cross, the cross inscribed "simply to the cross I cling", and the base of the plaque inscribed “rock of ages”.
This piece apparently came from a builder who renovated an old church in Liverpool, now long-since demolished, so presumably the plate/dish would have been used for Communion wafers, bread, or perhaps for offers.
Might this be an American piece?
