Topic: Jan Gabrhel chimney vase -- show and tell

Hi,

I wanted to show off a chimney-neck vase I recently bought: my very first Chlum u Trebone piece. It's a wonderful item, very industrial and masculine.  Unfortunately, with my (poor) camera skills, it photographs poorly.
 
It's 16cm tall, 17cm wide and weighs 1574g. Adding a bit of excitement to the piece, I do believe it's a factory pattern sample as its got "La hev 16432/16" written on the top shoulder.

At the moment, it looks a bit lonely on my shelf, being the only Gabrhel piece I've got. I aim to have a happy cluster of 3 one day.

Oooh, now that would go SO nicely with my Mdina rectangular textured bottles!
Out of curiosity, what is the date of this fabby piece? Michael Harris created his bottles around '69-'70.

Absolutely fascinating, Sue!  I would have never guessed your gorgeous two are Mdina.  There is a very striking similarity between our pieces, isn't there?

I believe Jan Gabrhel designed the vase in 1974.

I've only got one of those now    I swapped with John, who had two amethyst ones, so now we have one of each colour, each. 
I can see it's not bark which has been used to create the texture on your piece, but the basic design of a partially cased textured rectangular base is very similar.

MH got the idea of using bark from Timo Sarpaneva,  (the originator of using bark to make moulds) and Geoffrey Baxter got the idea from Michael Harrris.
The '70s were still a time of loads of experimentation and cross-fertilisation and sharing of ideas between artists.
