Treasure or trash? Bizzare glass ...
« on: February 04, 2013, 10:39:58 PM »
I picked these two intriguing pieces up today for less than a happy meal costs....I absolutely am in love with them!(not trash) I have a few questions about them as to the methods used to create them.
They seem to be some sort of light shade..
They only have texture on the outside ..
They appear to have been etched by tools or acid (?)
The foliage has a sandpaper  feel to it's..its glass..
The yellow-green color is painted (?) Inside...
Very bizarre piece, no marks/sigs can anybody here tell the age, artist or even help me identify the "style"...it gives off a kind of Art Nuoveau vibe...thanks! Ill try to load pics....I cant get pics small enuff....darn...

Hi and welcome to the board :)
if you size your pics so they are 600 x 400 they should upload as clickable thumb nails hopefully.
Your description sounds fab - looking forward to seeing the glass.

oh yes, don't crop to resize as it will become too small I think, or lose the resolution.
you need to resize to 125kb max anyway, but if you resize to 600 x 400 pixels it should work.

They are electric light shades. By cahnce you are not from Minnesota are you? I ask because McCourt Studios in Minneapolis did alot of this type of decoration in the 30s & 40s...tiny glass beading on patterns & the finish looks a bit like Tiffin's Jack Frost treatment, but McCourt used blanks from alot of manufacturers, They decorate quite a few Tiffin vases...yours just reminds me of something they did.

Welcome!
These are not trash at all, they're gorgeous! Are you going to use them?

Wonderful!
The next best thing to me putting them in my wall sconces.  ;)

They will look absolutely stunning when lit.  ;D

As a matter of interest, normally in glass, knowing the maker is very important, but lampshades are a slightly different matter. They're functional and beautiful things, so there is generally a good market for them simply as decorative pieces. A maker attached to a lampshade would of course, add a premium.

Mystery solved! With a tip from a fellow collector, I know that these two shades are pairpoint shades and they originally came with some sort of candlestick style base...which I do not possess.....bummer...
