A votive for ID please (really driving me mad!)
« on: February 20, 2013, 12:35:09 PM »
Hello All

Just wondering if anyone might recognise this please.  I've searched everywhere, and it's probably right under my nose!

It's a votive, of the size it looks really (just a tea light holder) and it has what appears to be a map of islands on it's base.

Are we thinking IKEA? :)

Best Love,
Stuart.

I had something similar from Orrefors, I just don't remember if it was signed or not.

I wasn't aware it was made in votive size but I have the ash tray size and it is a Iittala Finland piece designed by Tapio Wirkkala in 1972 called Aslak.  The pattern was in production until the mid 80's.  My piece isn't signed but has the red Iittala sticker.  Hope this helps.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff!  I was hoping that was the case. I've had many Tapio pieces over the years, and this has the same feel/look. I think the feature that made me doubt was the map effect on the base, as it seems way ahead of it's time.  I guess that's the nature of firsts.

Thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time Elizabeth.  I always appreciate every reply. I had considered Orrifors but couldn't remember the name!  I must be getting old.  :)
