Topic: Aspreys London Glass Jug

Hi, does anyone know anything about this piece of glass. I have searched but not a thing anywhere. I would have thought Asprey's would be easy to solve. It has etched mark and a reg number but it is too difficult to read or photograph. It has a 7 in it  It is 19cm in height and has a circumference of 38cm at its widest. There is wear to the base of the foot. Any help appreciated.

My head is suitably hung in shame    I didn't think to try that but I did for the Perthshire piece I have. Looks like a whitefriars piece for Aspreys unless I read it wrong. I will look into it some more when I am home. It is a lovely shape.  As usual, Thankyou Lustrousstone.

Yes they were made by Whitefriars for Aspreys in a couple of sizes usually it takes ages to find the mark you were very lucky to have a well marked one i have had several , still have two in different sizes if you look on Whitefriars .com i believe Patrick put a picture on of a set with glasses and a holder . they are nice in gold amber and i believe they did sea green also Deja who ? There is one on ebay with an etched Galleon its been on for yonks he doesnt know its W/Fs . or Arsepreys!!!!! Thats how the posh folk pronounce it ,

well I'm glad you find it hilarious JP.

Yes the mixer jug has been on ebay for yonks its true.

Its also true to say it is completely unmarked other than the signature of the engraver and with no reference for example to a w/f catalogue I prefer not to list by hazarding wild guesses and mis-attributions there is quite enough of that on ebay already.

I am not so arrogant as to think I know the origin of every piece of glass I have ever come across and often come here to discuss and learn about pieces I cannot pin down as well as follow other peoples 'finds' it is always going to be a learning process and it would be nice not to be ridiculed for ones efforts.

still have my sea green example protected well and tucked up in one of the garden sheds.          In view of jp's comments my entire future pension is hanging on the 'antique value' of this piece.       So, if you see me with string tied around my waist and holding a piece of cardboard say homeless, you'll know I was given a bum steer.

Paul i think you blinked and missed it . use it for Sangria or Pimms i do . How longs a piece of string ?

I nearly missed the Aspreys mark but it caught the light as I was putting it Back. I could make out ASP and Regd and thought I would get it as it was only £2 and was unusual enough to look into. I didn't see the one on ebay and that is usually the first place I look to find pieces (then I use what is on ebay to search further as we all know not everything is what it says it is on ebay). I would have thought the jug even without attribution would sell. Its very quirky and well designed to do the job it is meant for. Not that I have much occasion to make Martinis  I also saw a similar style jug made by Blenko.
