I bought this at the Grand Sablon market in Brussels though it probably doesn't fit my collection, but it is a great quality piece, with  striking design, so in the end I couldn't resist (and maybe I felt a bit sorry for the dealer, since it was -2 celsius and he was at least brave enough to be in his stand).

It's a big vase, 29,5 cm high and 9 cm across. The pink bit is cylindrical in shape, nicely finished at the top and bottom. The colour starts light pink at the bottom, and then becomes darker towards the top. The attachment is clear.

It's not marked, but the wear on the base, and little bits of dirt between the attachment and the vase suggest to me that it's a period piece, probably 70s, maybe 80s. Because of the gradual colourshift, I'm inclined to think of Val St. Lambert, even if it doesn't have their sig on it, but I've seen a lot of VSL vases that are lighter pink at the bottom and then become darker at the top, though never in this shape.

Have a look! Comments and ideas are welcome, speculation and suggestions for further research are also fine. I don't think it's Czech or German (the two areas where my confidence is slightly higher) but of course I could be mistaken.

Thanks Frank, I liked it too! Though I try to stay focused on my main collecting area, it's also nice to buy something looking good on a whim :)

Ivo, I'm glad you share my gut feeling about it being VSL-like... If you have never seen it, it's probably not a common design.

Are there any good resources for Val St Lambert around for the post-war period? I believe there is a book on their art deco work, but this clearly is a lot later.

Never seen much, I probably have quite a few of their cats but suspect mostly earlier or just services.

A reply a bit late, sorry but missed this one. As mentioned above, VSL Vase 'Alena' catalogue 1966. Perfectly normal for this vase not to be signed.

Thank you very much, Anne, I didn't expect this one to be ID'ed after so long... glad my gut feeling that it was VSL was right :)

Only rarely, Ivo. My collecting has currently a very low priority, I'm spending all my time on a university philosophy study at the moment, and that will probably take me some more years. But I didn't sell anything and when someone ID's one of my old unknowns, luckily I get a notification :)
