ID of glass vase/bowl - satin/frosted green glass
« on: March 24, 2013, 01:08:26 PM »
I am trying to find the maker of this bowl/vase - it is a heavy green frosted glass with some sort of iron/metal base.  The glass does not come out of the stand.  No markings at all/or label is gone.  Would appreciate any information at all.

Hi Vinatgefinds1964,

Welcome to the GMB.

We ask that ID requests are placed initially only in the general Glass forum rather than duplicated across forums. I have removed your thread from the USA forum, merged the two remaining threads in this forum and modified your second post to suit (see above).

For future reference, when adding additional images, you can simply add a reply to your own first message. That way, things are all kept in one place.

Hopefully somebody will be able to help with your request and assuming an ID is made the Board moderators will move the thread to the relevant forum.
KevinH

Hello Vintagefinds

I am sorry but I would not be able to guess.  It could help to remove a few decades (and therefore narrow it down further) if you can find out whether the glass is uranium (glows brightly under UV light.)  Other than that, sorry I can be of no further help.

Regards,
Stuart.

No problem at all. If your item glows under UV light it would mean that it contained uranium which, if I am correct, is no longer produced. This would mean that you might better know that it was not made in recent years.  However, without the better knowledge of some of my fellow members, I cannot say for sure whether some factories are still producing uranium glass.  I seem to remember owning a 1960's Riihimaki vase that glowed under UV but the style of yours looks almost art nouveau so, if it did glow, it would suggest that it might actually be art nouveau and that period would narrow down the possible factories.

Regards,
Stuart.

No it's still being used in the US, the Czech Republic and others. I have pieces covering about 160 years, including two from the 2000s. "Uranium dating" is only useful (sometimes) alongside style features.

IMHO the piece in question looks modern

Sorry! unable to identify this unusual looking piece.   It very nice though.  I'm not sure if it's purpose, that's whether bowl or vase.  ::)   Here is a quick guide for testing your item/s that I found:

Good luck!

Thank you for the input thus far, this is def an old piece.  The glass has areas that look like it is coming through the iron casing that it sits in- I have seen some Bagley pieces that look very similar....

Have looked everywhere on the web - and this piece does look art deco/noveau.

Have you searched this database?  Typing "Bagley" into the search brings up lots of Bagley items.

(I have seen lots of Bagley items involving metal attachments but never this one in particular).
