Topic: LOETZ glass in Finland? ID required

Hi there,
Nice to find this forum. I have been collecting Humppila glass here in Finland for a little while. I like the design and prices are pretty cheap over here. However I bought a pretty little vase in a local antique shop last week that looks like a Loetz? Its about 18cm high and 11cm it's widest point. It was very cheap so I expect it's a copy, but of course it would be good to know for future reference if it is the real thing and if not why. I am going to keep my eye out for more of the same anyway as I have never seen these across here. Hope someone out there can help me.

Hello and welcome to the GMB. 
I'm not somebody who knows much about Loetz although I do like it very much - this doesn't really look like Loetz to me - I think I'd suggest Steuben. But be patient - somebody here will be able to help.
It's a beautiful thing, whatever it is.

I think it might be Loetz. Have a look through the Loetz pages here http://www.kralik-glass.com and you may be able to match the shape and or the decor
The decor might be Loetz Phänomen Genre 2/484, or Medici

Hello Roy,

Welcome to the GMB.

Your vase appears to be an example of Loetz ca. 1900. It is a decor referred to as Phänomen Genre 2/484. It is also commonly referred to as Medici. You can see other examples of the Medici decor here:

It is a nice example, especially if it was cheap.....  those are always the "nicest".

Thanks to you all for the extra information.

Yes it looks close to the design you mentioned to me on your links also..

I paid €40 for it, that seems good as now I look there are some very high prices on this sort of glass it seems, but of course they have to sell to be real ones. I know forums dont usualy value things, but could you? It would be good to know what a fair price would be for similar items if I look for more as I really bought it only for the look this time.

Craig, very true. My knowledge of older glass is woefully inadequate.
I know one small area of studio glass reasonably well and that's it.

Roy, your best way forward investigating prices would be to follow auctions for similar pieces - you should be able to find some now you know what it is called. 
I would think that 40 euros was rather cheap for this piece you have.

I agree....  40 Euros was dirt cheap as we say here.....  If I found a Medici for that price I would be doing back flips over it....

I can't afford to be somebody who studies Loetz or Steuben.
