fish bowl, leech pot or flower vase?
« on: May 15, 2013, 09:39:21 AM »
I would welcome opinions on whether these are fish bowls, leech pots or flower vases. About 15 cm tall and 17 cm diameter.
Thanks
Julie

Hi Ivo
I presume you mean for storing seeds rather than sprouting them?

I can't imagine anything so large and heavy is for seeds, or for turning upside down.

The 1906 Leune catalogue has 'bocaux à Graines" from 60 grammes to 2000 grammes.

Hi. Why do they have to be turned upside down?  ???

My guess would be to exclude oxygen.

You can store chilled stuff from the supermarket upside down.  It will probably keep a lot longer, but you run the risk of encouraging the growth of lethal ANaerobic nasties like listeria (although they shouldn't be in your pasteurised cream and yoghurt to begin with), so it is most certainly not recommended!
