Vase with etched monkey
« on: May 16, 2013, 07:48:37 AM »
I unintentionally purchased this vase at an auction..... I assume that someone bought an ordinary coloured vase and acid etched it at home with a monkey pattern. The size is 25cm. I would be rather surprised if someone can identify the maker but you have astonished me more than once with your breath of knowledge so I give it a try.

Caithness would be a strong possibility.

I agree - although I'm not aware of Caithness with coloured splodges, everything about it just "screams" Caithness.
I'm more used to seeing these same colours used in broad-ish vertical streaks - the "Oban" pattern.

Well 'spotted' Chris... :D

The shape is very Caithnessian (can I say that?) along with engraving and now coloured spots there is not much to argue not Caithness over.

Agreed - and well done, chriscooper, tracking the Caithness splodges down.
Not a shadow of doubt, Caithness.  :)

Thanks to you all. Following your leads I found it in the 2001 Caithness catalogue. The range is called Images.

Are Caithness catalogues available on line?
I thought 'images' had a big stripe unless it's not visible in your photo, or of course it's a different 'images' and I didn't look properly but I thought the splodges looked more like 'Splash' or 'Mosaic' ?
This is the 'Images' vase I had in mind.

Perhaps it's the addition of the etching that make it "Images"? All these vases were made without etching too.

Catalogues are not available, no, but there is the accumulating collection of verified images on Scotland's Glass.
