Topic: Antique Sulphide over Latticino Basket Date & ID help?

I'm hoping that someone can help me out on this; I can't find anything similar.
Roughly 2-1/8" diameter, the sulphide appears to be pale pink and sits over a double latticino basket.

Under closer examination it appears rather that the glass is pale pink - likely due to prolonged exposure to sunlight?
The weight is roughly 2" in diameter and 1-5/8" tall.

Hi.  That sort of basket usually indicates Germany / Thuringia, 1880 to 1920. The slightly pink/purple coloured glass is typical of that area too (excess manganese, used as a decolourant, that precipitates out over time and exposure to UV in sunlight).

To be more exact, the UV causes a chemical reaction that results in a change in the oxidation state of the managnese and an accompanying colour change. It does not precipitate out and it will oxidise however low or high its level but the higher the level the greater the colour change. The major factor is the level of UV exposure

Thanks Christine.  I think the original explanation I read (a good few years ago in a book concerned more with pottery glazes) must have confused the purple of manganese in old glass with dispersed copper and similar colourants.

Thank you both for the invaluable information!  I knew that the color change had to do with the additives and in the glass UV exposure but never new the exact detail.
