Hi, my son has a lovely etched 9" tall celery vase which we were hoping for info about please? To me, the detail is lovely, but unfortunately, it has 2 chips to the rim  :'( I think it's Victorian. It has a very slight yellowy tinge to the glass. I was hoping that someone would be able to tell me more about it please? Thanks for your help  :)

Hello Chriss
Your celery vase is almost certainly wheel engraved rather than etched - which was a wet acid process  -   and has a baluster shaped stem.
It might be C19, but possibly could be a little later.         Wheel engraving was a method of decoration used commonly in the Victorian era.             Can you see and small whiteish or black pieces of grit within the glass  -  this might help to confirm Victorian.
If it does have a yellowish tinge this might indicate a non-lead glass  -  does it ring when flicked?
As to origin and maker, you'll almost certianly never know  -  celery vases were one of the most commonly produced designs in glass - made in their millions in every manner of shape and style - pressed and cut - and in most countries, probably.           They're seen commonly still at most fairs and markets.
Would suggest that if this has a ground/polished pontil depression (on the underside of the foot) then possibly late Victorian.

Hi Paul S thank you for your reply :) Yes there are tiny flecks of black and other imperfections within the glass when I looked more closely. If flicked, it does ring and carries on for a while like a bell (nice note really :D). And yes it does have a ground and polished pontil mark to the base too :)
