VSL pipe rest/ashtray for dating.

a curiosity only, but thought it seemed a little interesting as well..............and assuming doubles up as an ashtray as well as being a pipe rest.
About 6 inches (155mm) long.           I've had pipe rests before - modeled as elephants, but not seen this one............am I right in thinking the 1950's, or might it be earlier??            You can see the factory name on the base. :)
