Red flower patterned kralik ??
« on: August 07, 2013, 05:46:21 PM »
I won't even pretend to know this as I cant find anything like it (only bought it today). I love it though! I think I can see how its done... flattened 'claw' and trails as if to imitate etched glass.
Is this an unusual one?
Thanks, David

 Thank you John,
Yes these seem to have been made using the same technique.

is there a similarity in colour and finish with some of the pieces on this thread?

and similarities with my 'tree trunk effect' vase

I do, I am thunking these may at some stage turn out to be Welz or possibly another bohemian maker again. The Spiraloptish variations may eventually be the 'Rosetta stone'.

I was thinking along the same lines, however there is a lot of similarity between the OP's vase and the Kralik ones you linked to, if you enlarge some of those on the Kralik site  :-\.  The obvious difference being no additional colours on OP's vase admittedly.

John and Flying free,
Thanks for your comments, I think those Abstract flowers are really the key to this and are so close other than in colour...glad mine is just red! I have just been cleaning some of my purchases and have noticed a similarity between this vase and another fairly simple green mould patterned one. It is that both have flattened decoration. The applied trails on this red vase have been flattened in places, so too has the waist of my green vase where the moulded pattern has been flattened where it has been pinched in. I haven't seen that as a feature on any other vases (maybe I havent looked for this before). I'll add a photo of this later.

I have not seen this decor before, although I have seen an interesting piece with a thistle decor which is more iridescent and a deeper cranberry color. The style of molding for the decor strikes me as similar. Although attributed to Loetz generally (it is not) it has been suggested that the piece is Poschinger.

That being said, the difference between this piece and abstract flower, is that abstract flower is a decor created by adding additional colors to a gather to create the "flower" in the decor.

This decor appears to be completely generated through the use of the mold.

It is a very interesting piece, and a decor I have not seen before in any variation.  NICE ONE!!

May I please copy and use the pics?

Craig
