Possible Yoichi Ohira Murano Glass Vase
« on: September 11, 2013, 04:30:49 PM »
I found this at a thrift store.  Its marked "de majo murano"  1989, which is when yoichi ohira was there, and it looks just like a piece that is signed by him.  How can I confirm?

Hello and welcome to the board :)
please could you re-add your photos much larger so the detail can be clearly seen?
they need to be around 600 x 400 in size.   If you need help to enlarge them without them pixelating please let us know.

Many thanks :)

Lovely photos and beautiful glass :)
The pattern rings a bell but I can't think where I've seen it before.
Hopefully someone will be along shortly who can help more for you as I have no knowledge of Murano glass.  Perhaps you could click on the 'report to moderator' button at the bottom of your post and ask them to add Murano Glass into your heading, which would bring the post to the attention of those with the knowledge.
This signed vase also has the trailed rim

I'm fairly sure it's by Ohira. One of the techniques used is incalmo, joining two different pieces of glass together, which is difficult to do.  If you're thinking of selling it, then I'd suggest finding a good auction company. They would authenticate it. If you're keeping it, then I think you can be sure you've got a very good piece.

Looks good! I only have one piece by Yoichi Ohira that was executed by Vittorio Ferro. It is a very interesting piece as you can see both of these masters influences in the vase. A highly technical piece with lots of interesting glass techniques in it. I don't think I have posted the piece here.

Love his work, a shame I can't afford most of it!
