Blue jug france
« on: September 19, 2013, 12:50:10 PM »
Hi
Love blue glass and this is blue !!!
Posting some pics of a blue jug from south east France in the hope of getting some opinions as research has been a bit lonely so far, only 2 points of reference found,a blue jug [ without the coiling on the neck ] described as being a cider jug from Normandy, and a jug with the coiling but described as being of purple glass [ pic is in black and white ] on page 167 of The Encyclopedia of Glass.
I can't find a separate section for French glass which is why I'm posting it here.
The remarkable thing to me is the spout !
Any and all opinions welcome.

hello rose, nice jug by the way  -  regret I'm not able to offer anything useful tho., other than to say the handle attachment looks to be supporting a mid C19 date i.e. it's been applied 'top down' thus creating the slightly ornate finish at the lower end.
Must admit the last pic reminds me of the underside of the jaw of a pike ;D

On a serious note, do remember that you can approach both Broadfield House and the V. & A. (London), who will do their best (if you send pix) to help with information.
