Knobbly tall Emerald green vase - smooth pontil
« on: October 09, 2013, 11:07:14 PM »
I have looked at Sklo union and Whitefriars but I have not seen anything that has convinced me as yet as a definite match.

The vase is a deep emerald green, measures 23cm tall and the base has a smooth pontil indentation mark.

Sklo Union is pressed glass in the main, so no point in looking there.

It looks vaguely familiar to me - Czech I think, by Jan Beranek.  I have certainly got something very similar, somewhere in my cluttered house!

That was my first hunch, I know the base is not typical but seem to remember something about these being skrdlovice in the past. I will look still closer into Jan Beranek at skrdlovice. Thanks

Edit - Emmi's blog has them  as Jan Beranek for Skrdlovice.

I would think not Skrdlovice, and not Czech.
Sorry, no further help. Maybe try to research the Japan idea?

I have maintained probably not Czech for a long time. I bought one of these in the UK once. I think they are circa 1950. Where bought, if given a large enough sample, can be indicative. This vase has proven elusive for a while! Pretty good quality, suggesting an established company. Never seen another colour though, with the coin sized polished pontil rod mark.... building up the colours available can help a bit too, with factory indication.... Interesting piece.

bOBA, as you say, the quality is there for these to be a good maker. I wonder if this base style was a particular buyers specific request, you never know sometimes.
