nazeing ?
« on: October 23, 2013, 07:09:57 PM »
I bought this bowl with what i think was two other pieces of nazeing(matt green dish and posy basket).I understand there is a link between elwells and nazeing but this does not strike me as "normal nazeing".........until i looked in my 20th century glass book and there appears to be a flint bowl in one of the pictures.
Any input on this would be appreciated.
thank you

regret I don't have any personal experience of this colourway, but can quote from Geoff. Timberlake's book, which is of some help, as it does show an identical bowl with this white and pinkish spatter decoration.

"An example of an Elwell label on an item not made by Nazeing.   This bowl is believed to be by Haden Mullet Haden of Stourbridge made during the 1930's.           Although the decoration uses flakes of colour, the shape is not one produced at Nazeing."

Quite an attractive piece, and regret there seems no further information at the moment - perhaps others might know more.          Must admit I haven't trawled the Board's search facility, so unsure if we've had something similar before. :)

I think Geoff's book is still available from Broadfield House Glass Museum:

Give them a ring as they are most helpful:

Thanks for that david and thanks for the link.
If there are lean times buying glass the next best thing is buying books on glass.
On reflection and closer scrutiny my bowl does not match one of bowls in plate 206 of charles hajdamach's book.
I did have a look back at previous GMB intrest in this subject which i found helpfull.
thanks again.
