Topic: unknown mark on glass

Hi again,i found two glasses the same, one with a mark and one without, can i ask if anyone recognises the mark?many thanks.

Hello Bat20,  please may we also see a picture of the glass,  sometimes that helps a lot as someone may know the glass shape and maker but like you have one without the mark.... Thanks.

Good point Rosie,it's13.25cm ht and 5,75cm wd,they are crystal and have some good wear to the base so 70's? ,or more recent and well used,i think the base is moulded,but i really don't know how they were made.

The glass itself reminds me a great deal of a couple of Riedel glasses I have.

A hammered sort of textured background, with decorative features standing proud of that, and a complicated stem with features which match the decor.
Mine are marked, but I gather the mark was changed every year.

The top surface of the foot has 6 lines on it, radiating out from the stem (I think I can see one on your pic), the surface of the foot also has a hammered texture.
The base of the foot is quite smooth and solid and heavy, there is a slight indent in the middle of it. 

The underside of the bowl on my glasses is flat - and has concentric circles on it, as if it had been mould-blown in a seperate part of the making process, before the pressed glass stem and foot is added.

The colour of the glass is excellent - crystal clear, sparkly.

any chance it might be a recent variation on the German Tschernitz glassworks mark  -  they did use an upper case T in a triangle.     Their production covered most types of table glassware - cut and pressed, I believe.              Just a thought.

Thanks everyone,all sounds about right sue,there are 4 lines on the base from each corner of the stem,the relief squares are yellow gold colour,they've got a real festive feel about them.

I did have a look on the great-glass site, which got me a link to the Riedel website - but while the mark on my glasses is there, yours isn't.
But it only dates back to '95.
I can't find any other source of glass marks, but I'm pretty useless at that sort of thing.

But the similarities between your glass and mine are really quite outstanding - Riedel is known for top quality stemware.

Is the stem of yours attached in a similar unusual sort of way? The stem on mine is six-sided, where it doesn't have the circular feature, so that is consistent with the six "lines" on the surface of the base, while yours has 4.

I have been told by a chef that you know you're in a top class hotel, if they're using Riedel.
(I wouldn't know - I'm more likely to be found in a campsite than an hotel! But I do have to confess to peering at marks on cutlery and the wine glasses if I am ever out.  )
