Got this blown glass vase with a plaster base recently. It is hand blown with an applied blue lizard or alligator. The glass is in great condition, no cracks or breaks. My guess is this was a footed vase but it broke off. There was one on ebay with a metal base

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bohemian-Glass-Epergne-Horn-Applied-Lizard-Enamel-c1900-/220786496728

I am only listing it here so you can see the pictures. It ended early. And I'm having trouble loading pictures small enough, but it is the same piece of glass. I would appreciate any help with describing it. When I bought it I guessed bohemian or venetian. (glass is not my primary field of interest! but I love it)...

Thank you for any help,
Gretchen

Hi and welcome to the board :)

:o at the price.  I also think it is probably Bohemian.  I don't know for sure but if it were mine I would suspect it was made by Harrach.

Oh my :o :o :o.  $2,700 for a seriously damaged vase on Ebay?  I can see why the auction was taken down.

Actually the vase ends in a point and looks as though it might have been made in some form of epergne.  It isn't damaged, unless it was never made as an epergne and actually had a glass foot attached to it at one point.  Which is also possible I suppose - then it might have broken off at the foot I guess.
However the original poster has said hers is in a plaster base.  So perhaps these were made to go in metal epergne stands of some sort?
But still.... that's quite a lot of money I think.  But he is a beautifully enamelled lizard :)
