Topic: Monart Lamp Fitting

This may be of interest to some of you. I have taken into care a Monart vase/lamp (non glass shade) for a friend. The fitting is typical of those used on the smaller lamp/vases but different in that it has a switch on the fitting. Strangely when power is applied the top light is on and when the switch is moved both top and bottom light albeit with reduced power. I don't think their is a wiring problem but will investigate shortly 
There is also a manufacturers mark but no name on both ends of the fitting, perhaps you can see this on the attached photograph. If not I have attached a representation of it !!!

Does anyone have any thoughts as to the maker

An unusual switch in my somewhat limited experience, sounds like the two bulbs when both active are wired in series instead of in parallel.

Thanks for your comment John, I will try a continuity test with a multimeter.

With my electrician's (time served) hat on, it appears that it is wired in series rather than in parallel.

Also the fitting needs to be rewired with an earth wire to be included to conform with the latest IEE regulations.

The manufacturer's mark is for the bulb holders only and not for the fitting.

The makers of the fitting would have bought in the bulb holders and added them to the fitting.
To date I have seen that type of lamp( non glass shade) in question with the switch on the fitting or an in line toggle switch.

Hello Gary,
Thanks for your comments. The holders are wired in series as John suggested so it would appear that if a reading lamp was required only the top was lit and the switch thrown for decorative purposes. So any ideas then as to the manufacturer of the fitting?

To date I have not come across any reference to who made that type of fitting in question.

As an aside could you post a picture of the lamp to help in my research.
