Topic: Georgian ? ale jug engraved hops and barley id

Hello there can anyone help me with this jug. This was a wedding present in around 1880, i do not think it's English as it makes a very dull sound when tapped, it has a lot of wear to the outer base and a snapped pontil, there are no seeds within the glass and a lot of age related dirt trapped in the crease of the handle, i think the foot on this could make it date a lot older than 1880, but i would like an experts opinion please, it's 8 1/4 inches in height 4 inches across the rim and 4 inches across the base.

Hi ,
          Looks closer to 1780 to me (could be earlier or a little later, would have to be seen live to be sure) and very probably English,non lead metal was also used in England but more likely in this case its the shape that's limiting the ring ,try a gentle tap with a pencil on the edge of the foot , that should ring,it may well be non lead but doesn't look it to me.

Thanks for that pete, this is my father in laws he was almost juggling it earlier when i was around his place, it's making me nervous having it in my house it's in incredible condition, would it have much value, although being a family heirloom it's not for sale.?

Sounds like a good idea, i'm probably taking this back to my pops in the morning, i don't mind if my own glass gets broken gives me an excuse to get some more, i'll try and come to the show anyway if i'm not working, any excuse to go somewhere new and see some lovely glass & have a few beers.

The domed foot is like that of glasses c.1780 from Hesse and Saxony inter alia.
