Cenedese Birds on branch - rescued and repaired
« on: February 02, 2014, 10:35:57 AM »
Just wanted to show what can be rescued
I bought these from USA. The parcel rattled when I received it. Broken to bits. I didn't want to throw it away so found a glass repairer. He has done a very good job I think
I do have permission from the seller to use her "before " photo
Also - it is signed Gino Cenedese 1980. I believe the father Gino died in 1973 - would this be the son Gino? or just the company name?
I just realised it no longer has its paper label! Removed by the repairer I expect.
Not quite as good as new - there was an old repair to the top branch where the glue had gone brown - could not be cleaned up perfectly.   But displays beautifully now.
Worth the cost of repair just to have saved it in my opinion.
I have the original receipt for it too. will post next

Very good job indeed.  :)
What a heart-sink you must have had when it arrived, rattling. All for the sake of some decent packing, it makes me so mad and sad. You've made the very best of a bad situation. 8)

I agree. The packaging was very poor. I had bought it cheaply anyway because of the original damage. Would have almost cost me the same in postage to return it for a refund as it cost to repair. And I just love my Cenedese birds ! Glad I could save them.

You did exactly as I would have done JAK for that lovely piece... the restorer has done a wonderful job, wish she was over here,  I have a few that need some TLC and I can't bear to throw them away.

She's a he Rosie  :). I had some Miloslav Janku fish. 3 of them. That were very badly packed and each of them had one fin broken - a front one that they stand on. Conpletely pulverised in fact - to powder. They had been in a box in my study for a few months as I could not just put them in the recycling bin !  They have now gone to Rino to see what he can do with them. Will post a photo of those when I get them back.

Oh please do JAK,  I would love to see the before and afters...  sorry I gave your wonderful restorer a sex change.... I thought I had read somewhere you called him a her,  but the main thing is he is a genius....
Miloslav Janku... oh JAK, I now have a cabinet full... no fish, (I don't 'do' fish) but lovely animals and birds...I must get some pics on here again soon,  been a bit preoccupied recently.

Me too Rosie - I love Janku - All I have is fish though - sort of accidentally. I bought a whole collection - 7 pieces - from a Czech lady in Sydney who was selling off her collections. Unfortunately she put them all in one carton - and 5 of the seven were the large 30cm+ sized, 2 sharks, dolphin, eel, axolotl and then two smaller angel fish. You can imagine the weight in the one box. They were loosely packaged so could roll around and did so - crushing the poor fins and pulverising the pieces.
Then  she said she couldn't be responsible for Australia Post !  Not their fault at all!

Would love to see your Janku animal collection sometime! Post your photos!!  There is a fabulous tall bird for sale on Ebay US - a pink one - its been on sale a long time. I'm too scared to buy it as its neck is so slender I cannot envisage it travelling this far and arriving in one piece! Would love it though.
Jackie
