Looking for any info I can find on this paperweight, the correct name for the style, rough age etc.  Can anyone help please?

Yes Mdina, could be 70s or 80s or for that matter a bit more recent. If it was marked Mdina on the base the style of writing might help to narrow the date down a bit.

No there is nothing on the bottom apart from a very rough pontil mark, please see pic.

May we see the base please Steve, it always helps to show both the base and the side view and also the top if it is a vase or jug.... we can help you more when you show us more. 
This is, as John says, almost certainly Mdina (again Maltese)  but some do have the Mtarfa or even Phoenician  on the base,  so it is good to see,  and will help other new collectors in the future.
