Topic: Murano crimped rose?

Here's a monster Murano? crimped rose. (Just for Allan Port, for his crimped rose page).

This is over 5" across, with a weight of 5 1/2 pounds.

Any idea of maker and era?

Is it unusual to find one this big?

Inquiring minds want to know.

This weight looks like Chinese to me but it is often difficult to attribute unsigned pieces so it will be interesting to see if anyone can confirm this.
As a general rule, the bigger the weight the less of them there are as they take longer to make and anneal, I have seen some Chinese weights with fish with a five inch diameter but anything bigger than this is very unusual.
I do have a Caithness Opus 88 triple magnum crimp rose weight with a diameter of almost seven inches and weighs 19lb and I have seen a couple of American ones this size

This is indeed a Murano weight.
While the Chinese make the occasional super magnum flower, it is quite uncommon for them to do so.
Murano, on the other hand, makes them with more regularity & I own several examples.
The flower petals, probably applied rather than made with a crimp, are consistent with Murano coloring & style.
Also, this weight has a polished, perfectly round base, as opposed to Chinese bottoms which have a frosty finnish & irregular shape.

Thanks Mark - I have learned something new as I have seen very few Murano weights of 5" diameter but I have seen many Chinese this size.
