Quiz: Guess who made this conch shell ashtray

I know; it has a label. The shell is nicely made, though the browny orange makes the white look dull. Three layers, clear over white over orange. The spikes are all clear though the twist has all three colours. The base is ground and polished though slightly amateurishly.

I have seen something it reminds me of, one with a blue interior and multicoloured exterior.  I was always tempted as I thought it might be Kralik but just couldn't see the photos clearly enough to tell.
Is it older than 50 years?  ;D

ooh I can't believe it is, but the colours remind me of Barbini

The protrusions look almost contemporary, but the three very thin layers of glass suggests otherwise.
I'm clueless. Utterly clueless.
Karlin Rushbrooke? He does fingery protrusions. ;)

Or Mike Hunter? There's not much he can't do. ;D

Tricky one indeed. My first two thoughts were either a Murano maker or as Sue suggests possibly a contemporary Studio maker....?

No to everybody. This manufacturer was very shortlived and there is a clue in the description of the pontil mark

Manufacturer, (as in factory) or maker (as in studio, an individual)?

Fritz Akerboom?

It's NOT Malta Decorative Glass. I wouldn't consider that for one moment.

Best eat your hat then, tassels and all. I have no reason doubt the authenticity of the label - it's been there many years - and the grinding on the pontil mark is just like that on MDG pieces. I would even venture to say Boffo - it may not be desperately attractive but it was made by a skilled craftsman

Good. Grief.
Blow me down with a conch shell.
Thank goodness I never threatened to eat any hats.  :P
I didn't know they had white enamel.

It would have to be Vicente Boffo. As you say, immensely skilled.
Fascinating. ;D
