Topic: Small, maybe Japanese, bowl for I.D please

I have not had any purchases of note in the last few months but this little beauty caught my eye. A  triangular thick walled bowl, of clear glass, with three indents to form the shaped top. Ornamented with gold coloured flakes, amber glass and  bubbles all extending out from the center in quite an orderly fashion. Flat polished base with stenciled lettering- outer circle Rotary International Convention- inside- 1962 Tokyo East.  Measures 98 mm wide by 46 mm tall, weighs in at 400gm- a nice little handful.
So one would assume a Japanese product but am open to any and all suggestions.

Oddly, the Rotary Convention in Tokyo was not actually in 1962, but 1961 (the first time it was held in Asia). In 1962 it was in L.A. Usually held mid-year.

It may have been a commemorative piece actually made after the tokyo convention to be given to someone at the U.S.A convention as a token of appreciation?! If so, indeed it would most likely be a Japanese piece then.

Most of my notes on Japanese Glass Makers/Artists etc only go as far back as 1965 at the moment

I am trying to piece bits of information from all over the place together. I am quite sure that my notes have information going back further but I have not got that far yet! It is like trying to put a 100,000 piece jigsaw puzzle together LOL

It is a beautiful piece, and with your date confirmation of 1961, it is most likely gift/commemorative/souvenir piece, and more than likely Japanese in my opinion!

Ahh Kane- good old Trade Me in New Zealand. Did email and the secretary on the web site did not have any information and directed me to the Rotary International Organization, so will have to do a bit more digging. regards from a slightly moist New Zealand - Carol

Names mentioned are Toshichi Iwata and Itoko Iwata; there is also a link to a piece in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection wich was made in 1959, so quite close to 1961; maybe an avenue to explore further...
