Topic: olive coloured roemers

Hi all,these seem alot better quality roemers than i'm used to coming across,their about 13.5 ht and 6 wd,all slightly different with broken pontils and a nice weight in the hand,i'm guessing not very old with very little wear to the bases,but very well made in the tradition with trailed glass feet.I bet a few glass makers make them, but in hope any thoughts?  and i should add they have a ring,many thanks.

Hi, when you say they have trailed glass feet do you mean that the inside of the foot is smooth and the trailing on the outside of the foot has been added rather than created using a mould?

If it is trailed, you should be able to follow it spirally with your fingernail from top to bottom. If it is moulded, you will only achieve one circuit

Yes and yes,although you can feel the trailed glass on the inside of the foot it seems to me it's trailed onto a thin  layer of glass and there are a few gaps between here and there at the top of the foot,you can follow the spiral down to the base so it is one thread,the bowls have a pushed up small hump in the bottom, all in all very well hand made pieces i would say,but maybe not how the original feet were made,if they were trailed onto a mould of some sort.

Unless there are holes in the glass, the trailing is done on a plain glass foot. I wouldn't expect to feel it on the inside though

I've checked them all and you can feel the trail to varying degrees, it could be tooling marks but it does seem to correspond with the trail,

If they feel heavy for their size with a high lead content don't ignore Powell. Not sure about the colour though...

Thanks for the leads,they do feel heavy John and have a very nice ring to them if that's an indication of high lead content,books ,books my kingdom for more books,lol..
