Glass Decanter Signed To Base. ID = Kosta, designed by Berg
« on: March 27, 2014, 05:25:21 PM »
Can anyone help decipher the signature on this decanter. Not sure what the first part is, pretty sure it then reads Bh 1935. Bright clear glass, not any real age to it.

Thanks

Roy

the BH could be Elis Berg, and the No. is probably the model no. rather than the year.

It could well be Kosta. I was working along the lines that the Bh, if it is Bh, referred to Bohemia so was trying to use Slovak sounding names beginning with K. Pretty sure it's 1935 though.

It looks almost identical to the signature on the Kosta Boda vase I have which also has a serial number that points to 1985.  I've looked for a photo of it for ages and can't find it, unfortunately.  Also is very bright, clear shiny glass.

1935 is the pattern number rather than a date in this case.

The earlier Elis Berg pieces 1929 to 1950 I have had were just signed with a B with left side often written in such a way appearing to show a stylised E followed by a model number.
The BH followed by the model I am sure came later when some of his earlier designs were reproduced?
