green glass with pedestal sold as Murano
« on: March 29, 2014, 12:31:39 PM »
I bought this thing on Etsy a few months ago.

The color of the glass is grass green, which seems unusual for a Murano. But the glass is not perfectly clear.
The shape is really bizarre.
It is not built in one piece: the pedestal seems weld.

A few medium bubbles. Some white lattice which seems of good quality. No complex canes (nor canes).

The pedestal sounds rather like cristal than glass - but I'm not sure of it.

It was described as a Murano. I have doubts, but I have no idea of what it could be.

For what it's worth the green glass looks like uranium glass. Have you got a UV light to test it with?

This would be funny indeed. I didn't know there were paperweights made of uranium glass.

I have no UV lamp but buying a small LED one is possible, they are cheap enough.

You can get them at pet stores. They're sold as pee detectors.

I think the photo is explicit enough: uranium glass indeed.

Any idea of how old it is, and when it has been made?

Hi.  The twists and latticino inside look very like those in Murano scrambles from the mid 20th century, so I would believe Murano as the origin.
