Cobalt Blue Glass Plate ID please
« on: April 01, 2014, 11:40:47 AM »
Hi, new here, so hope this is a clear posting!
I am looking to sell a collection of cobalt blue glass plates.
But only one has an ID mark on it.
Can anyone tell me who the maker is?
(I can only assume the others in the set may be replicas?)
The top surface of the plates are smooth. The underside of all is a sort of reverse 'hammer' pattern (as in photo.)
All are thick and heavy.

Side plate (small)  20cm diameter (x7 pieces)  4mm thick  No ID marks
1 Larger Charger @ 30.5cm (4mm thick)  NO ID marks
1 Larger Charger @ 30.5cm (4mm thick) Stick man with hands raised ID on base

Pic enclosed:
Base of larger charger – Man with arms raised

(NB These plates may be Scandinavian origin as a Norwegian friend gave them to me, equally she could have bought them
in Spain!)

PS  There is a page on EBay that has this mark, but is as yet still unidentified. (Am I allowed to post links here Admin?)

Welcome to the Glass message board.
FWIW that is not a stick man with arms raised but a glass blower holding a blow pipe with a bubble. Not seen that mark before - but the item is definitely pressed and therefore mass produced. Not all items in a set have to be marked to belong together. Yours seems to be a cake set: a large plate with 6 smaller plates, and a second large plate.

I would price them as decorative glass plates with a pretty pattern.  You do not have a set, you have the remainders of what was likely a set.  Also, they are not identified as being from any particular maker, they are pressed glass, and the age of them is unknown.  I am also not sure that the two larger plates would be properly called chargers unless you have slightly smaller plates that fit on top of them.  Your small plates sound like they would be too small to be dinner plates for your larger plates to be formal under plates for them which is what chargers are.  I might call your smaller plates either side plates or maybe dessert plates, and you larger plates dinner plates.

Thank you all for your input. I enclose the page of 'Unidentified' marks from the EBay community page I was talking about.
(Mine of course is the 5th in from left on top row.)
