ID help - lampworked cherries signed "RW"
« on: April 04, 2014, 05:20:04 PM »
Hello all,

I purchased this weight believing it to be Chinese but after receiving the weight I was surprised to find that it is signed, "RW 82". Any idea who made it? It's roughly 3" in diameter and 2" tall.

Thanks,
Eric

Could this be Robert Wetzel?  Is anyone familiar with his work?

Thanks for the photos. The script does show a strong resemblance. I wonder if space was a limiting factor and this is the reason my weight has only initials - it has a flower cut base. I don't think Wetzel can be ruled out. I sure would like to see some other examples.

Bob passed away in 2012. he lived in Zanesville, Oh and had a glass shop there, he was also a glass mold maker and worked for Anchor Hocking. Corning has a video in their collection of him. You might try to track down his family in Zanesville and see if they can authenticate this piece as being his.
