amber ribbed posy bowl / vase - webb? ID help please.
« on: April 05, 2014, 09:29:17 AM »
Hi,

Amber posy bowl / vase 9" diameter at top, 3" diameter base, just under 2" high, ground out pontil mark (also has remains of a bubble that hasn't been fully ground out )and polished; heavy for size, beautiful long ring, age wear to base. Spiral ribbing  felt mainly underneath the rim, but also seems to have ribbing radiating outwards like spokes but not as obvious. a few tiny bubbles in the glass mainly within the spiral.

It is similar in amber colour to the bubble vase see: (I also got one exactly like this at the same time) but the glass is different.

Haven't managed to find anything exactly like it but seems closer to Webb than anything else.

Would appreciate any help in identifying it, thank you!

Maybe, but I would also consider Walsh Walsh; they used that fine spiral rib

I haven't found a picture so far of them in the Gay glass range. Do you think there is a high lead content in the glass?

Is yours actually more amber in real life than on the picture?

It's quite pale this one,I thought it may have been what the book 'Art, Feat and Mystery' calls 'Venetian ripple'

Keith, Is yours exactly the same size as mine?

Sorry, I don't have any books for reference for this stuff - just relying on t'internet!

Ok, just remeasured mine - it is about 8.5" across, just over 2" high and almost 3.25" base diameter so I think we can pretty much say they are the same size.
I think I need to go to the library and look at some books!
