Blue and white cased glass,Burmese?
« on: April 06, 2014, 03:19:17 PM »
Hi all,   I bought this vase this week, the seller said it had been identified as Burmese glass. ( no idea who told her that)  That meant nothing to me so I looked it up and it seems the wrong colour to start with. It has a white interior layer then a beautiful blue neck fading to white as it goes down. A zig zag pattern going underneath too. There's some gold stripes between the white and blue layers at the neck. Then enamelled pink flowers with gold hand painted leaves. Could it be Victorian? I have nothing like it to compare it to. 17 cms tall. Any ideas very welcome please.   Regards Cheryl

No it's not Burmese but it is what they call air trap glass, which relates to the underlying pattern. Victorian sounds good, though some was made in 20th C Italy. Could be Bohemian could be English. If the height is exactly 17 cm then I suggest the former.

Does it have a cut polished and bevelled rim? rather than a firepolished smooth rim (difficult to see if it has or not a pontil mark)

Hi I, the vase is actually 17.5 cms tall. The rim is cut flat across the top but smooth to the touch. There is no sign of a pontil scar on the bottom, it does dip in very slightly. I'm not too sure on how glass is made I usually go for pressed glass which this is obviously not.  ;D.  Cheryl
