Mottled Glass Vase/Bowl
« on: April 12, 2014, 03:42:59 PM »
Well not sure what to say about this, don't like the colour one bit but was at a jumble sale today and it only cost 50p and I find it hard not to buy anything at 50p. Seems to have a fair bit of wear to the base and a polished pontil. Measures 21cm x 5cm and has a beautiful ring when pinged.

Any ideas of origin?

Thanks

Roy

I think this would be classed as a mushroom posy.
I love the colour  ;D is it really that bright?
Can you enlarge your photos a bit or do a close up of the bubbles in the vase please as that might help determine maker?

Oh. you beat me to it! Is it really that colour!
Are you thinking possibly Nazeing M ?
Could we have a side on view as well please.
I must admit I probably would have bought it for 50p, I did see a blue Nazeing  / Elwell one the other day for £2 and I resisted!

It does have a lovely polished pontil mark though which none of my Elwell / Nazeing posy bowls do and they are not that bright, was it S&W who also do that bubble - will have to check,

Yes, I think it was S&W also did a range for Elwell - I suspect it could be S&W because of the polished pontil - please fell free to disagree with me though!  ;D

Okay, yours has a different  base shape, more curvy, mine are straighter or shape outwards towards the base.
I've just found one of mine with a similar shape base to yours which has a ground out circular pontil mark but not polished, it's lighter than my others which I am pretty certain are Nazeing / Elwell.
How heavy does yours seem?
The problem with these bowls is the more you come across the more variety of shapes and sizes you see, bit I haven't seen one in your colour before. In all honesty its probably going to be difficult to give it a positive attribution!
you could have a look here http://www.ysartglass.com/Otherglass/Nazeing/NazeingG01.htm to see if you can spot one like yours!

Thanks Roberta.

I have had a look and seen a couple that look similar, different colours, although I have found S&W examples that look similar also. Trouble is many of the sites don't have pictures of the base etc so I'll just keep searching and hope for the best.
