Dating a Czech label - Help Please
« on: April 18, 2014, 03:27:12 PM »
I have found information indicating that this form of label was registered in 1963 as an International label. The example shown in the reference material online indicates a different color combination, being mostly dark with gold lettering.  That information is located here:

http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Bohemia-Crystal-Labels.291+B6YmFja1BJRD0yOTEmcHJvZHVjdElEPTEyMzY1JnBpZF9wcm9kdWN0PTI5MSZkZXRhaWw9.0.html

I am curious if anyone has information which would allow this to be dated to a more specific time frame, or is post 1963 the best that can be done.

Also, based on the label design, is there any chance that the label was used prior to 1963 and only registered later?

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

TIA
Craig

What information I have comes from Marcus NewHall's book Sklo Union Art Before Industry, page 163. He shows four Bohemia Glass labels captioned 50s-60s, 60s-70s, 70s-80s, 80s-90s all have variations in typeface and colour but they share the overall design, the black on gold in question is not illustrated. These export labels only tell us in which country the glass was made, they are not factory specific.

I have a label exactly like the one you show in my archive, it will have likely been on a piece of 70s pressed glass. Although 50s is a possibility judging by Marcus' info the typeface used matches the black on green label he lists as 70s-80s.

Another one here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,56432.0.html

Thanks John.

I am working on getting permission to use the images of the piece of glass, but it is a piece that without a label would normally be described as a piece of 1930's glass.  It is the first example in this style I have seen with the later label on it.  Even if the label were to date to the 1950's let say, the vase is an interesting piece of production for that late of a time frame.
