Any ideas about this little rooster? - Is he Murano?
« on: April 18, 2014, 11:55:09 PM »
Hi can anyone please give me some idea about the origin of this rooster? at a guess I would say Murano, because of the style, colours, and workmanship, but the branch/log/thing he's sitting on is confusing me. So not sure. All advice gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to GMB!

Glass animals, particularly lampworked, are notoriously difficult to attribute without a signature or label - I have dozens that I have no idea about. Style, colours, and workmanship are a good start, but also it can come down to certain tools used to create crimps, etc. So my post is not that helpful, except to welcome you here!  :D  ???

The gold accents do point at Murano, but we'd like you to bring out your tape measure and let us know what  "little" is.  If it is lightweight lamp work there is little chance of an ID. But it looks oven worked, and the animal is just stunning.

Welcome to the GMB!

I think we can safely promote this little stunner to the Murano board.

It certainly is enough to wake anybody up! ;)

It appears to be standing on a branch-like bit of glass, as were the Cenedese birds Jakgene had repaired...
I haven't a clue if that is any indication of anything, but the high quality of work in this little rooster would not rule Cenedese out.

Is your rooster solid glass or hollow?

Standing on a log is fine, these Seguso beauties do: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/GlassFromMurano#5628382581291330786

 ;)
I'm still learning - now I know both Cenedese and Seguso used logs.

Wow, thank you so much for all the responses. Aside from the info concerning provenance of the bird, I really appreciate the warm welcome and depth of knowledge available for newbies such as myself.  :D
And I have another one for you... ;)

Hi turtledoves,

I notice that the rooster, together with a full set of images is currently live in the NZ "Trade Me" auction site. Is the listing yours? Or have you just copied a photo?

I need to ask because of the GMB guidelines on use of copyright images.
